In November 2020, the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua was hit by two Category 5 hurricanes in a period of 2 weeks.
Haulover, a Miskito community, is a town that was devastated and now that the water has gained ground, the population is more vulnerable to the increasingly strong storms.
Me
I graduated from the career of Social Communication at UCA (Central American University). I've done film and photography workshops in Spain (Escuela TAI), Guatemala (teachers from the French Audiovisual Institute) and in Nicaragua. I have made several short documentaries and music videos. I've also worked as videographer and photographer for various NGOs in urban and rural areas of Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
Documentaries and photography seem to me mediums that allow a lot of creative freedom and intimacy with the protagonists of the stories that I work on.
Some of my photographs have been in traveling exhibitions in Europe for SOS-Nicaragua. My work about the Nicaraguan LGBTQ community was published in the regional book "DiscrimiNaciones" and my last documentary "Haulover: Baiki Sakan" (2021) has been selected in the Climate Crisis Film Festival in UK.
I'm currently developing a long term photographic and multimedia project focused on Lake Xolotlán.
